Winter Storm Update

What a difference a week makes. This time last week the worst storm I have experienced in the sixteen years I have lived here was bearing down on the Sierra. We got about 3-4 feet of snow and 100 feet of wind.

They clocked 168 mph gusts at the top of chair 1. It seemed like it was never going to end. Needless to say the Mountain was closed for the whole weekend. Because of the wind, the snow drifts were 10-12 feet in places.

Travel was impossible. 395 was closed. CalTrans and Google Maps, in their infinite wisdom, told travelers that the highway was closed and ‘motorists are advised to use alternate routes’.

This caused our emergency services to spend the whole weekend helping drivers who got stuck on side streets. They could only get to them on snowmobiles and then had to leave the cars where they were, sometimes for days.

There was car-nage. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!

Over twenty trees blew down on one street in Crowley. Despite the winds, Mammoth fared pretty well but it was terrifying. You could hear the wind gusts approaching.

I am glad that is over.

Big News for Mammoth Rentals

As I let you know on Wednesday, our town council voted to lift, on April 22nd, the moratorium on issuance of new short-term rental (STRs) permits.

This is great news for rentals in Mammoth Lakes. Starting on April 22nd, you can apply for a permit to rent out your property at night. This will allow you to explore new opportunities to earn additional income.

They raised the license fee from $25 to $250 but asked for no other changes. There will be a 2% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) increase on the November ballot. Again, I’ll be glad when that is over.

Mammoth Lakes Condos for Sale

It seems that both buyers and sellers are exhaling with the lift of the rental moratorium. Our market continues to be strong.

Of the new listings here are my favorites:

A 4+3.5 with a two-car tandem garage. Under construction.

Gated community on the Sierra Star Golf Course. Luxurious and modern townhome. Too many features to list, please see the listing.

Monthly HOA of $1,058 includes a clubhouse and shuttle to the mountain.

Price: $2,195,000

640 Golden Creek

A 3+loft with 2.5 baths. Location, location, location. This end unit sits on the Snowcreek Meadow with a stream running by. Tons of potential. Views! HOAs $832 monthly.

Mammoth Point #109

A 2+2 with stunning views. Completely remodeled. Ask me for a complete list of features.

Beautiful unit. The only thing I don’t like is the road it is on. The slope is very steep and rather dangerous during snow storms or when there is ice.

Oh, and the price is a little high. HOAs $695 monthly.

Price: $915,000
